AWAZ UTHAO – DON’T LET THE VOICES DIE

This campaign was launched post the “Nirbhaya” case in December 2012. The campaign was to provide a platform to voice concerns around the rising crimes against women, and call for action to STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN.

We launched a petition in December 2012 demanding fast trial courts, closed court hearing, strict judicial action against the perpetrators and capacity building for various authorities to handle such cases sensitively.

With our petition, we were able to gather one lakh thirty thousand signatures both offline and online within three months of the campaign launch. These signatures, which formed a collective voice, were presented to the then Minister of Women and Child Development, Ms. Krishna Tirath, to advocate for women safety and security.

‘Awaaz Uthao’ was a forum for us . The entire civil society and individuals to come together in solidarity to demand justice for the horrific incident and mechanisms to stop gender based violence.
